The Ohio House hearings began YET AGAIN on the so-called Heartbeat Bill that would ban abortions at the first detectable fetal heartbeat, typically around 6-weeks. Remember that bait and switch bill Kasich vetoed in December of 2016? Well, Women Have Options testified in strong opposition to this bill (perhaps "strong" isn't a strong enough word...)
We're flippin' mad. Below is the nicest words we had for the committee.

Creating a Facebook fundraiser on #GivingTuesday is a great way to raise awareness and funds for WHO/O (and potentially access some sweet, sweet Bill and Melinda Gates matching funds.) Also, all fees are being waved so 100% raised that day goes to WHO/O.

"Adrienne was a waymaker, a visionary, a peacemaker, a warrior. She was fierce. With her quiet demeanor and loud actions. She was amazing."
- Linda Freeman Walker, Board Member
We are deeply saddened to share with you the unexpected death of our friend Adrienne Gavula, on Saturday, September 2nd, 2017. Adrienne was an active and vital fundraising volunteer with Women Have Options and from 2012-2016 fiercely served as a member of our board of directors and then as our board chair. She was so full of life and love for justice. Adrienne dedicated her life to making the world a more just place and will be deeply missed.

In case you haven't seen on social media, Women Have Options made international news with a powerful and silent coalition protest at the Ohio State House, as yet another dangerous abortion ban was introduced. This video from Al Jazeera has gone viral with over 600,000 views on Facebook. While lawmakers try and pass legislation to effectively ban abortion after 13 weeks, WHO/O, NARAL Pro-Choice Ohio and Planned Parenthood Advocates, were there together to protect Ohioans.
We won't stand idly by; We are continuing to fight. This morning legislators met to hear testimony and vote on Senate Bill 145, which, if passed, would essentially criminalize the dilation and evacuation method (D&E) — the most common and safest method used during most second trimester abortions between 13 and 24 weeks and occasionally after miscarriages.
Folks seeking abortion care are already being forced to wait longer to get access to care or some forced to travel out of state. If you don't have the resources to travel out of state, or travel two hours to a clinic, you're already kind of like in The Handmaid's Tale — forced to give birth without your consent.
Today we spoke out and shared testimony (below) in opposition to this dangerous bill. We can't continue this fight and our work to make abortion accessible to all who need it without your support. Please consider giving or volunteering.
