Women Have Options is seeking a part-time community outreach and practical support intern who will work closely with our Executive Director to help launch our new practical support program, research and implement efficient processes and help with the day to day workings of our small non-profit organization. The Intern will have the opportunity to learn from staff and board members across the organization and have the opportunity to make a real impact on our organization and those we serve.

About Women Have Options

Women Have Options, founded in 1992, funds abortion and works to reduce barriers to abortion and reproductive health access by advocating anchored in the values of reproductive justice. As Ohio’s statewide independent non-profit fund we provide direct financial assistance to those seeking reproductive health services at Ohio clinics as well as Ohioans who have to travel out of state for the care they need. Clinics use 100 percent of the funds allocated to provide direct financial assistance for contraception, emergency contraception, and abortion services.  Last year, we provided funding to serve to 432 people who otherwise would not have been able to afford safe abortion care.

Primary responsibilities

• Open and foster lines of communication with partner clinics to build trust and develop accountable relationships, do outreach in the community and develop resources for clinics and partners to use to implement our practical support program
• Meet with community partners and visit partner clinics
• Create and participate in opportunities to expand our reach, and cultivate community relationships in Ohio; represent WHO/O at community events
• Contribute or document content for organizational communications and marketing materials, such as email newsletters and social media; post pictures of events and activities to organizational Instagram account with an eye toward leveraging volunteer support
• Support activities and foster volunteer participation and leadership, including assisting with event logistics at our annual bowl-a-thon and clothing swap
• Data entry and documenting processes, protocols, and policies

Internship skills needed:

Qualifications

• A demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, to write clearly and concisely
• A basic knowledge and understanding of barriers to abortion care access in Ohio in relation to systemic oppression
• Ability to communicate well on the phone
• Attention to detail, with a commitment to accuracy
• Computer access and literacy including social media, Microsoft Office, Google docs and web-based databases
• Highly organized
• Work collaboratively, be flexible
• Strong multi-tasking, prioritization, and time management skills; ability to meet deadlines and document progress
• Confidence to take risks and be a self-starter
• Desire to learn about day to day operations of a small non-profit

Details and Application Process:

This part-time position will be located in Columbus, OH and the desired start date is March 1, 2018. The position is remote but the intern will meet at least weekly with Executive Director in Columbus. This is a $15 per hour paid stipend internship, with the requirement of 10 hours per week for 20 weeks.  The intern directly reports to the Executive Director.
